How to trap rats in a Burnaby backyard

Find the runways
Rats travel along edges, not across open lawn. Look for droppings and rub marks along fence lines, shed walls, under deck edges and around compost and garbage bins.

Place 2–4 traps
Set traps flat against the wall or fence with an entry facing the runway. Dual entries mean a rat can come in from either side. Start with a 2- or 4-pack.

Bait lightly
A pea-sized dab of peanut butter in the bait cup works best. Rotate the cup open, add bait, then press until it clicks into the set position.

Check daily
Check every morning, wear gloves, empty and reset. The trap is reusable — clean it and put it back on the same runway.
Safety: place traps where children and pets can’t reach them, and away from areas wildlife uses. Use them in sheltered spots (against a shed, under a deck edge) rather than open, exposed ground. For a large or ongoing infestation, contact a licensed pest-control company — ZIVASKA sells traps but does not offer pest-control services.
